The Area

Cetona, included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy, is a small town located in the province of Siena at 385mt a.s.l.
Cetona borders with Lazio and Umbria, with the towns of Chiusi, Città della Pieve, San Casciano dei Bagni and Sarteano.
The name, although there are various popular rumors, probably derives from an early Christian pieve which, in 1275 text, comes called “plebs Sancti Johannis de Scetona”.
In 1418 the knight of fortune Braccio da Montone, lord of Perugia, conquers Cetona and sells it to the Republic of Siena.
In 1770 it becomes part of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany until the Risorgimento and Unification of Italy.
